LOW IMPACT TIMBER EXTRACTION
Quickthorne Tree Care applied to LEADER for funding for an Iron Horse, a specific bit of kit that will help Nick to harvest more willow and so increase his turnover.
This project involves woodland management, hedge laying, coppicing and producing coppice products, tree planting and maintenance, and rights of way maintenance. It came under our micro enterprise budget.
Nick has many clients including wildlife trusts, local authorities, estates, landowners and private clients.

NATURAL POOLS
Sparkling, clear water; dragonflies darting amongst the irises and water lilies; reeds rustling in the faintest breeze sending ripples across its reflective surface – this oasis of tranquillity in your own back garden is a natural swimming pool, specifically designed to swim in pure, clear water, without the use of chemicals.
Work started here in July 2010 with the initial plans drawn up; the pool was filled up in November 2010.
The pool surface area is 300m sq with a swimming area of 120m sq and planted regeneration area of 180m sq. The deep end is 2.75m and shallow end 1.2m. There is a large shallow end with curved steps, stepping stones with water jets below, and a beach area for children to enjoy. Overall pool length is 28m, which enables you to swim lengths.
A natural pool has negligible impact on the environment; it uses no chemicals whatsoever and relies wholly on plants to clean the water. They do not need constant emptying and refilling. The pool attracts a lot of wildlife including frogs, dragonflies, waterboatsmen and pond skimmers to name a few, and sometimes birds drink from the pool.
The pools are also cheaper in comparison with other pools, as they only need filling once with an occasional top up, and there is relatively little maintenance to them.
The natural pool at Ellicar is a show pool.
LEADER assisted with the build of the pool and was entered under our micro enterprise budget.
